Berry Men's Shed was established in 2005 by Berry Uniting Church in response to a perceived need in the Shoalhaven for men who had recently retired to share in meaningful community projects that benefit themselves and the community. Regional towns are noted in many research papers as having a high incidence of mature male suicide caused by depression, poor personal self image and feeling of worthlessness. The Sheds aim is to improve member's sense of self worth and their practical and interpersonal skills, while contributing to the community. Shoalhaven Area Health and local general practitioners have referred patients to the Shed while many members have joined to satisfy a personal need for this form of community interaction. Members work in a fully mechanised wood workshop and are committed to work on community projects, tasks to advance the purpose of the shed and their own personal projects. Most elect to work only on community projects.

The Shed has a non-discriminatory policy, welcoming men and women of any age. There is no membership fee, the only cost to members being $2.00 for each day they attend, which covers the cost of morning & afternoon tea. This ensures the Shed is accessible to all members of the community.
